Introduction

  • To understand what it means to be saved, we must understand what it means to be lost.

  • Our doctrine of salvation is based on our doctrine of lostness.

  • Today the common idea of what it means to be lost is – is to be in a mess; to have a life that isn’t working right; to have a bad habit; or to feel guilty.

  • Those may be some of the results of being lost, but that is not what lostness is all about.

  • When we say that man is lost, we are speaking of a condition that exists in the mind of God, not the heart of man!

  • Man is not lost because his heart is bad. Man’s heart is bad, but that is not what makes him lost.

  • The thing that makes man lost is that he has offended the righteous God.

  • To be lost means to be subject to the pursuing wrath of God.

  • If we are lost, it is because God says that we are because we have sinned against Him.

Illustration: If I sinned against you, that sin lies in your mind. I have offended you. I am not forgiven until you say that I am forgiven.

  • What it means to be saved is to be in Jesus.

  • If salvation is in Christ, how does one get into the plan of God’s salvation?

  • I have to take God’s word for it.

  • I have to do it God’s way.

  • Salvation is in the mind of God; not in the heart of man!

  • The change that takes place in the heart of man is a byproduct.

  • It is a result, an effect; not the cause. We are not saved because we are changed; we are saved because we are forgiven.

  • You must be born again. Then what must I do to be saved?

  • We must have faith and we must repent.

  • Once we have faith and we repent of our sin which we have before the offended God, we are ready to enter into the death of Jesus.

  • How do I enter into Christ? You get into Him by moving into Him – in the mind of God. We are in Him when God says we are in Him.

  • Faith

  • Repentance

  • Confession

  • Immersion for the forgiveness of sins.

  • Faithful Life

From Mark 16:16
  • He who has believed
  • And has been baptized
  • Shall be saved.
Can we change the order?
  • Maybe He who has believed
  • Is saved
  • And shall be baptized?
Or maybe like this?
  • He who is baptized
  • And has believed
  • Is saved?
Or maybe like this?
  • He who is saved
  • Should later believe
  • And maybe be baptized?
We cannot change the order of the text!
