Introduction
Matthew 6:5-15
  • Do not be like the hypocrites
  • They love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on the street corners
  • So that they may be seen by men
  • They have their reward in full
  • Do not be like the Gentiles
  • They use meaningless repetition
  • They suppose that they will be heard for their many words
  • When you pray
  • Go into your inner room, close your door
  • Pray to your Father who is in secret
  • Your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.
  • Your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.
  • Use this model
  • Our Father who is in heaven
  • Hallowed be Your name
  • Your kingdom come
  • Your will be done, On earth as it is in heaven
  • Give us this day our daily bread
  • And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors
  • For if you forgive others for their transgressions, your heavenly Father will also forgive you
  • If you do not forgive others, then your Father will not forgive your transgressions
  • Do not lead us into temptation
  • Deliver us from evil.

  • Prayer is
  • "beseeching the Lord" - Exodus 32:11
  • "pouring out the soul before the Lord" - I Samuel 1:15
  • "praying and crying to heaven" - II Chronicles 32:20
  • "seeking unto God and making supplication" - Job 8:5
  • "drawing near to God" - Psalm 73:28
  • "bowing the knees" - Ephesians 3:14
  • Acceptable prayer must be sincere and needs to be offered in reverence and fear to a Holy God - Hebrews 10:22
  • Prayer must also be offered in the faith
  • That God is God
  • God hears and is the answerer of prayer
  • In the name of Christ - Ephesians 2:18 5:20, Colossians 3:17, I Peter 2:5
